In the heart of Berlin, nestled within the vibrant indie music scene, emerges Elsdeer with her debut album, Namara.
โMetal Water Wood Fire Earthโ instrumentally introduces the album with echoing chatter and background noise that gradually fades with the piano keys swimming in. The drums rustle and patter on the foundation, only to be followed by much mystique buzzing with lowly blowing horns. We are rhythmically immersed in a mysterious and suspenseful atmosphere which conveys how immaculate and well-composed Namara is.
In โTen Years Time,โ Elsdeerโs evocative vocals delicately unravel much longing and melancholy with guitar strumming rhythmically. With the lines, โten years time/since I held your hand,โ punctuated with her quivering and high voice, controlled in its cage, she paints portraits of moments suspended in time.
As Namara progresses, โThe Second Comingโ brings a more sombre atmosphere than the previous few tracks. The guitar enters with lush ripples that inundate you in a heavy atmosphere. Elsdeer yearns for something elusive. She sings of a past relationship with a resigned but poetic contemplation and recalls her and her lover being โtwo falconsโ who stirred trouble.
โMimicry,โ the albumโs closing track, offers a sense of closure and resolution. With upbeat beats and acoustic strumming, Elsdeerโs voice resonates with a newfound sense of empowerment as she sings, โI am not afraid to be alone once again.โ Itโs a testament to her resilience and growth, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Recorded at the renowned Famous Gold Watch Studios, Namaraโs haunting beauty leaves you for more. Elsdeer is coming to quench your thirst with some live performances on her Western Europe tour. So stay tuned!
