After coming up with an album, “When Therapy Fails,” and a nominated music video for Best Music Video in the Carolina Film Festival 2023 and the Franklin Flix Indie Film Festival 2023 for her single, “Fire in the Hole,” Pam Ross is even more inspired to release more music. And she did. On the 10th of March this year, she released a music video and single called “No One Around.” An absolutely moving piece, we would say.
In her country song, “No One Around,” Pam Ross wistfully portrayed the innocuousness of young lovers in a forbidden relationship. As they say, the taste of forbidden fruit is always sweeter. She mixes country with Americana and rock, crafting a 3-in-1 genre-bending experience in the song.
The music starts with a sweet, upbeat, but twangy guitar play over joyous drumming. Pam has a low timbre that seamlessly gets higher and more sonorous with the uplifting range. She helps us build our imagination by feeding us with wondrous, evocative, and descriptive imagery reminiscing about the old times through her lyrics: “I still hear the backwoods calling/ I still see your face through the trees/ I remember I loved you following me.”
Her voice combines well with the country tune, especially as she sings of no one being around as the character in her music lounges with her teenage lover in the backwoods.
The music video, produced by Rob Underhill and Evelyn Putnam, magnificently portrays the curious, innocent thrill of teenage romance with a beautiful backdrop of a lake beyond the pines. The cinematography is also well-done as they demonstrate the lost chronicles with the days turning into nights in the woods.
“No One Around” is both a sweet and nostalgic listening and viewing experience. So listen to it now!
