Here’s some top-tier indie-dance music from an unlikely rising artist. Masashi is a Japanese guitarist, self-taught multi-instrumentalist, and singer who likes to step outside his musical field and territory while casually inhaling the beats of the world and producing music with much inspiration. One such example would be his recent visit to London, where his favorite artists like the Smiths and The Stone Roses reigned from. There, he got the opportunity to perform with local rock bands and even happened to partake in a workshop at the Guildhall with the celebrated percussionist Yahael Camara Onono.
Naturally, London became the muse behind Masashi’s new indie-dance, oceanic single, “Goodbye.” The song builds up with a synth shimmering like crystal-clear waves under the sun and increasing in volume until the acoustic guitar strings are stroked and strung slowly. The instrumentals hang in the background as Masashi’s voice enters. His thin and high-pitched voice slowly rises with every chord, and the beats also make an entrance.
From the back, the EDM beats balance the upbeat and airy, refreshing rhythm of the song. The drums give more sincerity to the joyous sensation, while the cymbals throw more spice into the carefree air. And then we have the ubiquitous playful synth evoking the urge to dance and sway in the summer air.
Some may ask, if it is so upbeat and enjoyable, why is it called “Goodbye?” Well, that’s because we are bidding farewell to the life wasted indoors in the pandemic and truly living it for what it is.
