Barcelona-based indie artist Liz Lavly takes a fearless leap with her latest single “Not Guilty Anymore,” a rebellious anthem that turns societal expectations upside down and sets them on fire. Following her debut “It’s So Cold, My Love,” which leaned into a colder introspection, Liz now embraces unapologetic liberation with a track that fuses indie pop sweetness with punchy rock grit. On top of that, the accompanying music video embodies the taste of finally stop asking for permission.
The song kicks off with a buoyant beat, layered with gentle floating textures that contrast against its defiant message. Liz’s distinctive high voice in its nasal sharpness, rides the melody with ease, sounding eccentric, untamed, and absolutely unbothered. There’s no sign of control or constraint, as her vocals come across playful and raw. She sings, “I don’t care what people say / Being myself is the only way,” creating a manifesto carved out of experience.
The chorus lands as a bold rejection of imposed roles, as she goes, “They told me I should be a good girl, a shining, bright pearl / But I will break this law, I’m not guilty anymore.” Beneath the witty simplicity, we see that shedding guilt is itself an act of survival and self-renewal. Later, her insistence on rewriting the story, “No more playing perfect, no more living small,” flips conformity into rebellion.
With “Not Guilty Anymore” Liz Lavly releases the fear, shame, and silence. So check it out on Spotify, if you want to break the chains yourself.
