On their euphoric new track If You Need It, Starbenders honor the dignity of pain. If You’re in Need Kimi Shelter of the Starbenders describes it as “a metallic collision between feathers and switchblades.”
If You Need It, a new single from Atlanta’s glam-goth-punk underground Starbenders, is out now. It’s the band’s first single since February’s Seven White Horses single.
Kimi Shelter, lead Starbender, states, “The band recorded If You Need It during a really terrible moment in our lives.” “As we stood in the studio, the sands beneath our feet were changing. The chorus of the song encapsulates the spirit of the song: ‘I’ve got love if you need it, drugs to keep it even.’ ‘I can’t handle it any longer.’
“It’s hard to change people, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t love or help them enough. Pain is a dignity that we must transmute on our own. As a result, feathers and switchblades collide in a metallic clash.”
If You Need It finds the Starbenders in fine form, with haunting, quiet verses smashing into an exultant chorus.
Hannah Gray Hall, who previously directed the video for Seven White Horses, directed the video, which portrays the band performing live in what appears to be an abandoned warehouse with a group of masked partygoers drinking a blood-based punch. In any case, it’ll be an exciting night out.
Starbenders’ latest US tour kicks off this Wednesday in Atlanta and concludes in July in Jacksonville, FL. Dates are listed here.
