Thereโs a quiet rebellion in making things shorter when the world keeps demanding moreโand thatโs exactly where Apstara steps in with One Minute Mantras I: Awakening. The Los Angeles-based artist, also known as Juliet Lyons, trades sprawling compositions for something far more intentional: bite-sized, one-minute soundscapes designed to ground you. Built around the idea that even a single minute can reset your state of mind, the album blends ambient textures, soft piano, and airy vocals into something that feels less like a playlist and more like a pause button.
โInner Dawningโ opens the experience like a slow inhale. Gentle piano notes ripple beneath a wash of ambient sound, while Apstaraโs breathy, wordless, and almost otherworldly voice floats in. She doesnโt so much sing as hover, letting her vocals melt into the atmosphere. Itโs immersive without being heavy, like stepping into a room you didnโt realize you needed.
A little further in, โLet The Mind Restโ does exactly what it says on the tin. The arrangement stays soft and uncluttered, with delicate piano guiding the track while her voice rises lightly in a higher register. Thereโs a fragility here, like sheโs carefully holding space rather than filling it.
Then comes โPart Of The Journey,โ and things subtly shift. Finger snaps add a tactile rhythm, layered hums build a foundation, and Apstara leans into a more expressive, anthemic performance. Itโs still rooted in calm, but thereโs a lift to it, like acceptance turning into empowerment. The near a cappella structure gives her voice room to stretch, and she takes it.
All in all, Awakening tries to be present. And in doing so, it sticks.
