New Jersey/New York artist Kyle Nelson, under the moniker Cementation Anxiety, has unleashed a sonic exploration of dread and catharsis with his latest EP, Outpour. This five-track journey into the abyss is not for the faint of heart but for those seeking aural and introspective chills. It’s a must-listen.
Outpour is a soundscape built on atmosphere. The opening track, “Consumes the Room,” sets the tone with silence slowly pouring into a room, thick and heavy like fog. Eerie echoes build as the song progresses, creating a hanging unease in the air.
Track two, “Subdue,” offers a brief respite. The atmosphere shifts from menacing to melancholic, with gentle melodies and ethereal vocal croons washing over the listener.
“Despond” plunges us back into the darkness. Mysterious and ominous, it builds suspense with every note. There’s a feeling of anticipation here, that something is about to burst forth. That something arrives in full force on “Chemical Resort.” Gritty guitars and industrial drones create a soundscape of overwhelming dread that will leave you breathless and wanting to crawl under the covers.
The title track, “Outpour,” offers a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. A gentle piano melody emerges, only to be swallowed by a wave of immersive, reverb-drenched haze. It’s a beautiful metaphor for the struggle between repression and release, the overwhelming emotions threatening to drown us all.
Outpour is a soundtrack for your deepest fears. But if you enjoy your chills with a side of industrial dread, check out Nelson’s upcoming full-length album, AGNOSIAREIGN, dropping in late May on Black Artifact.
