One-man musical mastermind George Bolton, with his project, the Screaming Pope, gets the most jazzy he has ever been in his latest album, The Value of Priceless.
The album cover, featuring a tiny globe nestled in grass introduces the theme of the planet and the gift of life the album encompasses. But Bolton doesn’t preach; he grooves. He seamlessly blends bluesy moods with urban jazzy cool, throwing in a healthy dose of electronica, house, techno, and even a reggae twist for good measure.
Dive into “Liquid Blue,” the opening track, where dreamy guitar chimes shimmer like wispy sunlight on water. The vocals—a husky, smoky charm all their own—draw me into the rest of the record.
Track three, “I’ve Got Issues,” throws a curveball with pulsating dance floor music. Warped viscose vocals dipped in sugar-sweet syrup come heady and drunk under neon lights. Need a taste of the exotic? “Kirima Thayu” delivers with jittery, jangling percussion and thick, unique vocals defying categorization. It’s a quirky delight that will have you swaying your hips..
“It’s Never Enough” hits you with a wave of pulsating pop, featuring female vocals belting out their desperate desires. The Value of Priceless closes with “Avallion (Erith),” a cinematic masterpiece. An atmospheric current swirls beneath a bed of soothing piano, then comes oozing a symphony of orchestral swells. Ethereal, echoing female vocals complete the picture, leaving you breathless and wanting to hit repeat.
Learn The Value of Priceless with the Screaming Pope’s spell-binding techno urban jazz.
