Paint by Rookes: Review
Rookes sings about the complicatedness of love in her new song ‘Paint’. It’s written brilliantly and is an at-home production which is why I imagine she took her time and channeled all of her passion and energy into making this a well-received number. In the artist’s words, “Paint is meant to be smooth, sexy …and a little heart-muddled. We’ve all been there, right?” I don’t know about you, but I can totally relate to this!
There is something gripping about Rookes’ voice and the song ‘Paint’ is quite reminiscent of the beats used in Lorde’s music. Did I mention that you will totally feel the unrequited feeling of love, once you listen closely to the lyrics? Oh, and it definitely wreaks off bisexual energy through and through! It’s actually meant for those of us who get caught up in a love triangle, perhaps the one taken for granted.
I would be remiss not to mention the lyrical brilliance of these lines performed by Rookes –
“Don’t lock me out/ Because I missed a detail
Or because I paint with sound/ Instead of colours now
Lipstick’s for wearing/ When I’m not around
Even now you kiss me/ Like I’m drowning”
Once again, relatable to the tee! You can now check out Rookes and pre-save her song ‘Paint,’ a delightful addition to the musical realm that feels ahead of its time, or listen to the full release on Spotify!
