Rae Lou’s latest single, “People,” is a much-needed dose of kindness in this hyper-individualistic and materialistic world. Inspired by American TV host and author Fred Rogers’ timeless words, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping,” the song is a powerful anthem of unity and compassion.
”People” starts off with piano, perfectly complementing Rae Lou’s rich and soulful vocals. While the lyrics send us the message, Lou’s vocals are the heart and soul of “People.” She wraps us in her vocal folds with a gentle elegance, conveying a message of hope and encouragement. The music builds throughout the song, mirroring the message of resilience. The gentle piano evolves into a driving force, propelled by the steady beat of the drums and guitar.
She sings of the cruelties of the world with the line, “Everywhere you look now/It feels dark outside/Like there’s no end in sight.” But then, she diverts our attention from the problem to the problem solvers, the ones who are easing the situations and circumstances.
Then, Cherry Ghost’s “People Help the People” also rings a bell with its beautiful testament to the power of shared messages, reminding us of the call for compassion that has echoed throughout history.
Rae Lou reminds us that even the heaviest burdens can be shared, and that kindness is the key to getting through difficult times. Listen to the movement of reviving compassion in Rae Lou’s latest single, “People” released this May 17.
