July, an R&B songwriter from London, continues his ascent towards worldwide dominance with the exquisitely melodic, dreamy, and modern tones of “Pokey Lights”. The track is an ethereal, and atmospheric jam. Upon listening to its entirety, you’d feel relaxed, and at peace with the synth melodies and the smoothness of July’s vocals.
As listeners, we discover a more calm and gentle aspect of the music biz through the song “Pokey Lights.” In this instance, July is successful in producing an effortless performance that places an emphasis on his vocal abilities. His tone is pure, and there’s an endearing crispness to the way it comes out. He incorporates a little amount of fast-paced phrasing into his R&B singing as well. The synthesizer instrumentation is minimal but sounds dope nonetheless.
Once you get to the beach or the oasis, playing “Pokey Lights” will undoubtedly make the trip ten times more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise. The tune simply exudes that vacation atmosphere. The track in itself is succinct and enjoyable, and I can’t picture it having any other length or style. Even if you hear it a number of times, it will still leave an impression on you, and you will find yourself humming the pattern over and over again. Every time July says “yeah”, it’s just so darn catchy, because the transition is incredible! Sometimes even the simplest of melodies come in a form that is easy to hear, and unbelievably memorable!
