Avaraj releases a tender EP, “Precious Memories EP,” grieving her late grandmother, who battled Alzheimer’s. With a focus on reflection, vulnerability, and the enduring impact of memories, the 5-track EP navigates themes of love, loss, and the unbreakable bond between generations.
“Precious Memories Intro” opens the EP with a spoken word piece showcasing Avaraj’s soul-stirring performance, accompanied by a soft and contemplative piano. The lyrics express the pain and longing for shared moments and memories with her late grandmother. The rapping of the spoken word verses is clear, vulnerable, open, and transparent. Avaraj conveys her gratitude to her grandmother, willing to know all about her difficulties. The drums begin pounding halfway to show the increasing intensity and commitment of the singer’s deep passion to help her no matter how hard it is.
“What Would Change” is an intriguing track that creates an intriguing soundscape amidst the melancholy. Avaraj seamlessly blends R&B and rap elements over gentle piano keys. Through the track, Avaraj questions her late grandfather if his presence during her grandmother’s last days could have made a difference.
The final track, “Won’t Forget Her,” takes a straightforward and honest approach to storytelling. Avaraj delves into the challenges of dementia and how it affects everyone who knows the person.
While “Precious Memories EP” is deeply personal to Avaraj, its themes of love, loss, and the impact of memory loss resonate universally.
