Moving Van, a funk-fusion five-piece, delivers an infectious groove in their latest single, “Ouroboros.” With playful and upbeat instrumentation and rich vocals, it nods thematically to the cyclical relationships.
Recorded at Cry Love Studios in San Ramon, CA, by John Baker, “Ouroboros” kicks off with an upbeat and catchy rhythm that steadily builds, creating an infectious pulse. The rattling percussion intrigues and resembles the sharp hiss of a snake. The instrumental arrangement features a captivating interplay of elements, gushing an underlying current. The vocals, delivered with a rich and effortless range, blend seamlessly with the lively musical backdrop.
The bridge of the song introduces an intriguing guitar solo, adding an exotic flair to the overall sound. Dalton Ricks took on the mixing duties, ensuring a cohesive blend of each instrument, while Gary Hobish mastered the single, providing the finishing touch to its sonic quality.
The instrumental dynamics mirror the cyclical theme of on-and-off relationships. The cyclical motif alludes to the Ouroboros, a serpent eating its tail, representing eternal renewal. You will find the lyrics and piano part very much resembling “I Like It Like That” by Pete Rodriguez. The track is strong with the inspired Latin/pop-sounding groove. The creative process behind the song originated from a teaching session at the School of Rock by the band’s singer and the school’s Music Director, Miranda Shakes.
Listen to the standout release, “Ouroboros,” in Moving Van’s repertoire and add it to yours.
