French artist Myselfson returns with a potent, genre-blending opus in a 74-minute concept album, Resistance. Here, melodic synthpop meets sharp-edged electro-rock, channeling personal introspection and urgent social commentary. Emotionally raw and politically charged, this sophomore release undergoes inner turmoil and collective resistance, drawing on โ80s musical aesthetics while pulsing with modern energy.
The opener, โPrรฉlude,โ sets a gentle, contemplative tone with soft piano strokes gradually adorned by delicate, glinting keys. Itโs a tender beginning that gives way to the chaos and urgency of the title track, โResistance,โ where weโre plunged into a soundscape of shouting crowds and cinematic string surges. Here, Myselfsonโs gravelly deep vocal commands attention as he proclaims: โYou must fight for your freedom / Remember what they have done.โ The song shifts dynamically after its bridge, exchanging bombastic pulses for haunting electronica, giving the anthem space to breathe and evolve.
โDas Ist Unsere Weltโ is one of the albumโs grittier cuts, driven by grinding guitar riffs and mechanical beats. The vocals are tense, almost militant in delivery, heightening the trackโs urgency. It feels like stomping through the industrial ruins of a collapsing regime.
The closing piece, โFreeman,โ stands out as a slow-burning, cinematic finale. Ambient field recordings, footsteps, flowing water, and crackling build a sense of immersion before a guttural growl pierces through the air and pulsing beats emerge. It finally dissolves into glistening synths and rushing water, ending on a note of uneasy peace.
With Resistance, Myselfson creates a bold, immersive experience that confronts, questions, and moves. Listen to it on Spotify.
