โReversible Submersibleโ immerses. Released this May 23, 2025, via Music Factory Records, this psychedelic jazz-funk voyage from guitarist-composer Ari Joshua, organ wizard John Medeski, groove master Billy Martin, and bassist Jason Fraticelli delivers sonic depth and surface shimmer. Where their previous collaboration, โBlurry Face,โ was a one-take live spark, โReversible Submersibleโ descends into strange and beautiful underwater worlds.
The track opens with a warm, rolling pulse. Billy Martinโs rumbling drums and crisp, sparkly percussion set the pace while Ari Joshuaโs melodic electric guitar begins to glide in like light refracted through water. John Medeskiโs organ flows soft and dreamy, its tones mellow and entrancing, before shifting into a clavinet-fueled swirl with subtle, playful chaos. Then, come the hornsโbright, loose, and jubilantโcutting through like sunlight in the shallows, injecting a breezy joy into the pieceโs layered groove.
Fraticelliโs bass playing is a quiet powerhouse here, fluid and grounding, his low-end lines swimming beneath the more frenetic elements with calm precision. Every instrument feels alive and in conversation, shifting naturally between tight rhythmic interlock and exploratory freedom. The tactility to the sound, thanks in part to analog FX, stereo play, and a mix sculpted with care by Jonathan Plum and mastered by Joe Lambert, makes each listen uncover something new in the texture.
Ari Joshua described it best: this track is like navigating the ocean floor with a headlamp and a dream. For lovers of groove, tone, and musical chemistry, โReversible Submersibleโ is one to dive into headfirst.
