Texas-bred, Waco-born artist Jimmy Swagg lets it all out in his electrifying new single, “Right Now,” released on May 30, 2025. I don’t know if you will believe it, but this song took six years to build, refine, and emotionally process. First written in Los Angeles in 2019 during the wreckage of a painful breakup, “Right Now” is as autobiographical as it gets. In this song, it wields this pain.
The track opens with thumping, gritty drums and fuzzy, shimmering guitar riffs, immediately creating a brooding energy. Swagg’s whispery, low-toned vocals float in slowly, building tension like a storm cloud that refuses to burst too soon. The chorus, however, unleashes it all as his voice erupts, soaring over blazing guitar work and cymbals that splash and spark like firecrackers.
It’s in these moments that Jimmy’s transformation from a behind-the-scenes artist to a commanding frontman becomes undeniable. Then comes the Hammond organ, an unexpected but soulful twist that adds vintage depth to the track’s raw modern rock vibe.
Produced by Brandon Saiz in Dallas and with drums originally recorded by Jay Cali in L.A., the song benefits from a bicoastal musical synergy, blending Texas grit with California finesse to make something emotionally jagged yet powerfully polished. Jimmy says it best himself: “My soul is the life of this song.” We can see that.
“Right Now,” for Jimmy, is more about claiming space than charting success, for himself and for the misfits, the broken-hearted, and the forgotten. With a preacher’s conviction and a rocker’s fire, Jimmy Swagg proves that pain can be the loudest anthem of all. Check it out on Spotify.
