“Rise” is Azure Blue’s latest and second single from his upcoming sixth album. I found it quite captivating as a dream pop track because it blends lushness with a rush that makes it well-rounded.
The song features upbeat and shimmering hi-fi as the pulsing cinematic analog synth gets anthemic. The music combines naturally with thumping and rushing drums, creating a sense of urgency and excitement. On the other hand, Peter Hook-like bass adds a touch of classic new-wave nostalgia, grounding the track in a familiar yet refreshing atmosphere.
The song, being about emotionally charged love, makes the entire composition more purposeful. We also have dreamy guitar melodies engaging us to contribute to the overall atmospheric richness. The instrumental arrangement is meticulously crafted, offering a dynamic and evolving soundscape that keeps the energy flowing throughout the song.
The vocals, provided by Azure Blue’s friend The Land Below (Erik Lindestad), are delivered in a hazy and reverbed style. The dreaminess of the vocals complements the expansive instrumental with its spacey immersive force.
The production quality of “Rise” is noteworthy, with legendary mixer Ollie Olson(Snoop Dogg, Robyn, The Bee Gees etc) contributing his expertise.
As the second single from the forthcoming album, “Rise” serves as a promising glimpse into Azure Blue’s exploration of harmony. The track successfully captures the essence of dream pop while infusing it with a contemporary and dynamic flair. Fans of dream pop, new wave, and indie-electronic genres will find “Rise” to be a satisfying and immersive musical experience.
