Rosanne Baker Thornley releases a new single ‘Because of me’.
Rosanne Baker Thornley, based in Toronto, is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning singer/songwriter who collaborates with a diverse group of international emerging and veteran musicians. RBT’s relationship with music (and writing) has been changing and expanding for quite some time. Sorry I’m Late, her latest album, which will be published in September 2022, digs even further into her craft, producing songs from a deeply intimate place.
“Because of Me,” like all of the tracks on Sorry I’m Late, is based on personal experience. This song is about someone who was always intertwined when they arrived, who willingly submitted to a vulnerable version of themselves, and who departed less tangled. It’s about changing that person for the better, and how those changes, while benefiting others in their lives, present obstacles to those same people. It’s about the realization and the danger to the individual who is driving them to change – and the realization that they’re working against themselves. That no amount of passionate sharing can alter the eventual consequence.
Thornley made her mark on the Canadian folk scene years ago as the lead vocalist and principal songwriter on the albums ‘Daystar,’ ‘Niteskool,’ and ‘Bakersmith,’ as well as through several tours across North America and Europe, gaining national and international media attention. She built her reputation one concert at a time from her base in Toronto, and audiences were drawn to her stories. Thornley wants to reconnect with fans in the communities she used to frequent and rekindle interest in her music through digital methods now that she has new music on the horizon.
The rich new tunes are a love letter to self-discovery and life’s small yet important moments. The result is an album that is surprising, vulnerable, abrasive, and honest, with outstanding songwriting and powerful musicianship. “My aim is that my music and I will reach and fit into people’s lives, everywhere,” she adds of the record. That my songs will speak to people who are going through, or have gone through, a difficult time. That my songs would relate their tales and draw them into a healing, hopeful, familiar, inspiring, and safe environment. That people will feel seen, heard, and soothed.”
