Sertraline by Big in Borneo: Review
Big in Borneo is the brainchild of Michael Pybus, a musician who composes electronic tracks filled with atmospheric vibes and a philosophical edge. His single entitled “Sertraline” encompasses three tracks, and each of them is captivating to its core.
Our musical consciousness is triggered by “Your Kiss”. The futuristic synthesizer pieces resemble the art of neon signs and sharing an intimate moment with your lover underneath rain-soaked lampposts. The bridge between the soothing vocals joins in with the drone-like bass sequence to create a wholesome melodic environment. Big in Borneo’s sound is fresh, yet strangely familiar, because his take on electronica is comforting. As we wire into the network of “How it Feels”, a unique track is presented to us in the form of celestial synthesizers, and rather than vocals, a conversation between people is played. This is where the philosophical elements of Big in Borneo’s music arise. The instrumentation on this track specifically is my favorite. Especially in the middle of the track where a middle eastern type feels arrives, with a stringed and orchestral sequence pertaining to that very essence.
The final track “Sertraline” is an experimental melody that feels very space-like. Behind the driving force of the song is a hip-hop-style beat covered with the musical characteristics of deep house. Hearing the subtle and catchy vibes of Sertraline by Big in Borneo took me on a mind-bending journey that was divine and filled with interesting melodies. I’m definitely looking forward to more from the artist!
