She Dances With Knives by Saves the Witch: Review
Saves the Witch is the creation of Eric Maynes blending the aggression of guitars, bass, and drums excellently. The artist’s instrumental track “She Dances With Knives” has the trademarks of a brutal, almost warlike metal feel. One of the many inspirations of the artist is the band God is an Astronaut, which is one of my favorite instrumental bands!
The track initiates itself with a tribal-style percussion piece that has a very mysterious and dark element to it. Once we reach the breakdown, the distortion of the guitar will mesmerize you. The distinct tone of the instrument was immensely fascinating. It had this fuzz-like tone which added a perfect layer with the bass and groovy drum pieces. The song has an intensity and power that can be a perfect addition to your next workout session because of the energy it entails.
The song’s message comes from Eric’s Native American and Irish roots, which he discussed. He was on the hunt for anything with a strong indigenous flavor. The rough guitar riffs certainly sound like an energetic tribal motif, thus it does make sense. Aside from that, nearing the end of the song a psychedelic-style guitar solo comes alive. It adds a nice touch of shredding with a wah-wah pedal mechanic. Overall, “She Dances With Knives” by Saves the Witch has a strong sense of production where the guitars are delightfully highlighted. Also, this is a killer name for the track, and it matches the theme of the music excellently.
