At the tender age of 10, the prodigy Soleil River Nation is here to wow the world with her upbeat, empowering and hooky entry into the big world of music: “Small Girl in a Big World.”
Having released this Feb 29, her debut single opens with an upbeat and catchy instrumental. Featuring a hard-hitting thumping beat and dreamy guitar chiming, Soleil gets us excited and intrigued with the fun mood exhibited. The artist gets singing as soon as the music starts. Her high, youthful voice catchily syncs with the upbeat instrumental. And that’s when you find out you are listening to a child songstress sing such an effortless bop. With her impressive singing ability, confidence, charisma and poise, she draws us in with her charm.
The chorus, “Small girl in a big town in a big world/and she has to make a sound,” captures the essence of the song’s narrative. Soleil sings about the challenges of growing up and finding one’s voice in a world that can often feel overwhelming and intimidating—a context perfect for her age. Her lyrics resonate with listeners of all ages, especially those still within the coming-of-age period.
This release is brought to you by Young Musicians Unite (YMU)’s collaboration with Soleil. Although it wouldn’t be possible without their help, Soleil’s multi-instrumental proficiency, her “Student of the Year – Miami Beach Chapter” award from the Grammy award-winning National Children’s Chorus and the Miami Music Project’s children’s orchestra, and her recent performance of “Small Girl in a Big World” at the Miami Gardens Youth Music Festival shows she was born to shine.
