SOILWORK Releases Title Track From New Album “vergivenheten”
SOILWORK, a Swedish melodic death metal band, will release “vergivenheten,” their first studio album in three years, on August 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. Below is the official music video for the album’s title tune.
Musically and lyrically, it has been “SOILWORK’s “most intricate and elaborate album to date, which marks a new chapter of their career,” according to a press statement. Not only because of the enormous amount of labor and time they put in, but also because the album’s outcomes reflect years of band development and expertise.”
Björn Strid, the leader of SOILWORK, says: “This album’s title tune may be the apex of this band’s musical journey; it encapsulates all we’ve ever been about, as well as the sometimes daring artistic expedition that this band embarked on some 20 years ago. This song is as close to my heart as you can get.”
SOILWORK was founded in 1995 in Helsingborg. SOILWORK joined the Nuclear Blast roster in 2001 after two critically praised albums on Listenable Records, “Steel Bath Suicide” (1998) and “The Chainheart Machine” (1999). The band’s distinct brand of melodic metal evolved at a breakneck pace as they published a new album every year and toured relentlessly across North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan. Ozzfest with headliners BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN, as well as an arena tour with LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, were among the highlights. “A Whisp Of The Atlantic,” their most recent EP, featured the 16-minute title tune.
Strid explained his usage of growled and clean vocals in SOILWORK in a 2013 interview with Australia’s Heavy: “I strive not to set limits for myself. I simply ‘feel’ it out, attempting to recreate the mood of the song. I’ve always been interested in experimenting with vocals. Whether it was loud or clean, I’ve never really wanted to get stuck in one thing. There’s so much in between that you can travel in a variety of directions. I also have a band called THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA with David [Andersson], which has been a vocal challenge for me. Because it was a completely new experience for me, I believe I learned a lot about my voice.”
SOILWORK is:
Björn “Speed” Strid – vocals
David Andersson – guitars
Sven Karlsson – keyboards
Sylvain Coudret – guitars
Bastian Thusgaard – drums
Rasmus Ehrnborn – bass
