Some Time Ago by Connor Desai: Review
“Some Time Ago,” is the newest single by American singer-songwriter Connor Desai, which serves as a follow-up of her 2017 EP release “Sister”. Like many singer-songwriters before her, Desai has a natural, sincere voice that meets expectations almost effortlessly. Its chill tune unravels the secrets of the skilled lyricist who can take the mundane details of life and craft a story out of them.
The song begins gently, with traces of guitar setting the tone for what’s next, and Connor offering a warm and rich vocal tone at the seven-second mark that was like music to one’s ears. Almost immediately, you’ll be treated to a tune, tranquil and relaxing. While maintaining its calm composure, the track delves into elegance and beauty out of a heart that has been crushed and shattered into what appears to be a million pieces. It’s a wonderful song, but it makes you want to hug yourself as you’d do a loved one who’s struggling. The music video, if you’d like to watch it, shows you the artist’s mental processes as she traversed the deep purple depths of emotional distress of loss, and anguish resulting from a lost pregnancy – which appears to be the visual and implied theme. The video’s imageries gracing a warm blue sky, private walking pathways, and rolling hillsides portray to the artist’s graceful transition and triumph over her misery.
In sum, it’s a literary story that sounds as real as it gets and has folk tones as calming as anything Joni Mitchell or early Jewel ever made.
