Liverpool-born singer-songwriter Anton Lewis looks backward without getting stuck in the past on Someday // Yesterday, an album built from songs that have followed him through different chapters of his life. Released September 5, 2026, the record brings together compositions first written in his late teens and early twenties alongside newer material, giving old ideas a second life through richer production. Returning to Liverpool to record with longtime collaborator Alex Bell makes the project feel even more circular: Lewis is bringing yesterday’s songs back to the place where his musical journey began.
“Vanilla” immediately brings a heavier edge, with grinding, churning guitars pushing through thumping beats and bustling, shimmering cymbals. Lewis’s high falsetto carries a floating intensity, balancing stress and frustration with a strangely contagious energy. The track draws on the punch of alternative rock while remaining distinctly melodic.
“Lords of the Desert” takes a more relaxed route. Shaky strumming guitar and steady thumping beats create a gentler backdrop as Lewis sings about trying to find his way back to the yesterdays he has left behind. There is something wistful in the performance.
Then comes “Midnight,” the album’s haunting closer. Slowly strummed guitars support Lewis’s soaring voice, with another vocal line moving underneath it to create an eerie sense of depth. Inspired by the apocalyptic possibilities explored in Nuclear War: A Scenario, the song shifts Lewis’s gaze from personal memory toward a much larger fear. Its darker, cinematic atmosphere makes the ending feel deliberately unsettled.
What makes Someday // Yesterday work is that Lewis lets his present voice inhabit those older songs. The arrangements have grown, the performances have matured, and the emotions have acquired new shades through time. Across its different eras, the album becomes a conversation between the person who wrote these songs and the person finally giving them the studio recordings they deserved.
Sometimes growing older means finally understanding what they were trying to say.
