Somethin About Her by Red Skies Mourning: Review
Red Skies Mourning, who released his self-titled album earlier this year, is back with another stunning single, “Somethin About Her.” Chris Aleshire, the man behind the project, continues to demonstrate his unstoppable force of talent as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with this song.
Before embarking on his solo career, the Maryland-based musician performed in several metal, hardcore, and rock bands, which explains the rock influences in his discography. In this track, however, Aleshire appears to have delved deeper into a more synthy, poppy sound. From the start, the song is upbeat and catchy, with steady percussion, playful clappings, and intriguing keypad sounds. The flow of energy builds up to a satisfying chorus, and listeners find themselves hooked to the soundscape at this point. Even when set against a full, vibrant backdrop, Aleshire’s voice has a charming, charismatic essence that cannot be ignored. You can’t help but sing along with him as he sings about falling in love, and as he does, images of a passionate love affair will pop into your head. Trying to decode the ingredients of love potions may be a hopeless attempt to explain the unexplainable. Nevertheless, Aleshire and his collaborators, Ryan Curtis as co-writer and Cesar Da Emperor as producer, have turned it into a hopeful, sweet, and exhilarating piece of music.
Quotable Lyrics:
“Heart goes the way it knows
Though how could I foresee
These butterflies within me
Heart moves the way it knows”
