Released on May 9, 2025, Stranded Assets is My Glass World’s seventh studio album, which poetically portrays and protests the uneasy times we live in. Helmed by Jamie Telford, with longtime collaborator Sean Read bringing his signature saxophone and studio finesse, the album veers between art-rock, jazz-inflected indie, and synth-laced ambience, always returning to a core of lyrical introspection and defiant clarity.
The opening track “Words” sets the tone with its ambient textures and poetic weight. Gentle drums and glimmering cymbals weave beneath Telford’s measured delivery, while soulful backing vocals and ethereal strings rise in the outro, creating an almost spiritual release. The lyrics celebrate and challenge language itself: “They beat me, and unseat me. Words defeat me.” It’s introspective yet universal—language as both weapon and balm.
“Show Up,” the album’s swaggering third track, shifts the mood. Driven by a confident guitar line, spicy percussion, and a steady, tight groove, it swaggers in with lush horns. Telford playfully questions a romantic partner’s intentions while background harmonies chant “spin, spin, spin” with the retro-soul swaying flair. The accompanying music video only enhances its cinematic charm. So check it out.
Track seven, “Where Are You,” haunts with its fast, rustling rhythm, contrasting the slow, searching vocal delivery. The horns are trails behind the lyrics like a shadow. A thick, disembodied female voice haunts the mix, mirroring Telford’s phrases, evoking confusion, loss, and emotional clutter.
Then there’s “Compassion For Animals,” a standout final track that grooves with precision and weight. The electric elements bounce lightly over crisp drums, while Telford’s voice carries a kind of weary frustration. It’s numb, tired, but still pushing through. Stranded Assets is timely and timeless, an album made of protest songs, existential musings, and aching grooves. Check it out on Spotify.
