Kelsey and Lisa breathe fresh life into Lacy J. Dalton’s classic, “Takin’ It Easy,” infusing it with a relaxed, summery vibe perfect for escaping the daily grind. Originally penned by songwriting legends Billy Sherrill, Mark Sherill, and Dalton herself, the song tells a timeless tale of seeking a peaceful escape, ideal for unwinding or that long-awaited beach getaway.
“Takin’ It Easy” opens with vibrant guitar riffs and a rhythmic sparkle that feels like sunlight dancing on waves. Layers of mellow steel drums and organic percussion create a subtle island groove, reminiscent of influences like Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney. Lisa’s thick and mezzo voice comes as a surprisingly decadent and relaxing touch to the music.
The way she sings is so comforting, nurturing, and therapeutic. And Kelsey complements her with a smooth, buttery, and lusciously rich voice, singing with a carefree vibe. Together, they sing in a conversational style, finishing each other’s lines right from the start, as with the opening lines, “I wanna run through the sand and the sun/Leavin’ it all behind,” lending a relaxed intimacy to the track.
The accompanying music video, directed by Fabian Alicastro and filmed in the stunning landscapes of Key West, Florida, feels like an ode to island life. With scenes of beach bars, sailboats, and sunlit waves, the youthful pair, Kelsey and Lisa, perform on stage and at the beach and capture the quintessential Key West spirit.
