Ramo Z faced challenges with Instagram censorship while promoting his heartfelt and visceral single, “THE HOLY LAND.” Released on January 28, this single serves as a bold statement against Palestinian injustice and oppression. Ramo Z uses his platform to shed light on the plight of his homeland—and there’s no stopping him.
Produced by K$TONE, the vehemently expressive song balances by opening with a traditional Arabic sample from Fairuz’s “Ya Zahrat al-Mada’in.” Fairuz’s rich voice drips with sensuous emotion and agony, beautifully explored in the fullness of the vocals.
As the sample fades, glitzy and hard-hitting beats thump down on the floor to create as much urgency and intensity as possible. Dark and heavy sounds loom overhead and cast a dark shadow over the music as Ramo Z delivers his powerful verses. This creates a haunting and atmospheric mood for the listeners to be pulled under.
Ramo Z’s lyrics are poignant and unflinching, as he addresses the devastation since October 7 with fierce resilience and unyielding anger in his voice to give his people the voice they aren’t permitted to have. He confronts how the atrocities have wiped out generations of Palestinians, mounting to the alarming death toll of 20,000 in only under 90 days and then systematically erasing the homes where livelihoods cease to exist. He ends the song by stating, “Over here, I am a voice. Over there, I am just a body.”
Listen to Ramo Z use art to effect change with his potent anthem, “THE HOLY LAND” and beat the algorithm.
