To the Bone by Anøma Lee: EP Review
Now calling London her home, the Belgian artist Anøma Lee released her debut EP “To The Bone” on June 3rd and it’s an anomaly in the pop scene.
She sonically summarized her 5 years of her stay in London experimenting with life through the experimental nature of the songs. The opening track is an enchanting trip through a tribal sonic ambiance. The repetitive chant backed up by a progressing beat and hypnotic vocal melodies and experimental layers create a trance-like vibe. The sound takes a turn towards a more RnB vibe with the next song, Steal Your Mind that continues with the song that follows, Tout Dans La Tête. Written in her native language, French, she introduces a melancholic undertone to the sound and also brings in a blazing guitar solo. Continuing her affinity with experimenting with sound, Far From Home implements different vocal and recording techniques along with experimental sounds. On the ending track, she explores the sound of hip hop by throwing in some rap verses along with her melodious singing.
Considering the sound profile, her affinity with RnB and hip hop is very evident throughout the EP but the fascinating thing about her sound is she seems to be not scared of experimenting, rather she enjoys showing off her versatility. This innovative sound feels like a breath of fresh air. She’s definitely one of the artists to keep an eye out for.
