Indie blues artist Asgard Raven has released his immersive latest single, “Tranquility” this July 12.
The song starts with shimmering chiming guitars and churning melodies floating above and setting the “tranquility.” Raven’s high voice comes with the beats. He sings with a suspended uniformity, his throat open and free as he sings, while the cymbals sizzle and the beats fall steadily. Then the guitars amp up, riffing more melodically and creating a wall of sound around us. Meanwhile, his voice grows more demanding, “So many people, with stories to tell/Breaking the silence, ringing my bell.”
“Tranquility” progresses with more grit in the next chorus, only for the bridge to leave us agape in what the artist finds so “hard to find.” Yes, it’s tranquility itself. The bridge is soothing. It’s like a clearing in a forest. We are left with an immersive ambience over which gentle piano keys intertwine with the guitar and the soft percussion rustles jitterily.
The guitar takes over with a soothing, melodic solo that drives up to a soaring and anthemic instrumental swell. Paired with his zooming, high voice, the music absolutely mesmerizes and inundates you in a tranquil zone, which shows you that tranquility doesn’t always come in the form of silence.
“Tranquility” is what you need to feel both motivated and uplifted. There’s something subtly anthemic about his cool confidence. And if you are trying to pin a sound to Raven’s music, you may find a semblance in the Gallagher brothers, Midnight Preachers, and Lennie Rayen’s music.
