Are you looking for an album that will take you on a journey through various soundscapes? Look no further than Chisme by Velour Academy. This album, released on the 4th of March, this year, is an eclectic mix of electronic beats, dreamy soundscapes, and high-timbre vocals oozing innocence and self-reflection. Thanks to Jamil, the one on the bass, guitars, and pulsar synth, bringing this sound to life was possible.
The second album of the pop-funk band Velour Academy, โChisme,โ has a nice ring to it. Itโs dreamy, fuzzy, and feel-good. Contrastingly, it sings about a lot of real-life issues in an almost nonchalant and delicate manner.
Regarding the contextual guidance on the album, Shannon Martinez, their lead vocalist, says, โThe songs touch on many different life experiences and emotions: a love story, a friendship song, feel-good songs, a sad song about struggling with personal demons, from spooky to carefree.โ
The 10-track album introduces itself with Pulsar, a track beginning with drums and a gritty EDM beat boiling up the music scene in its first shot. The fleecy voice of Shannon is a perfect combo with the driving guitar riffs.
We believe Unetta deserves a special mention, as there we hear about a lost loved one who perhaps left or passed, as Shannon sings in the opening line: โWhen I heard the news/ Oh it broke my heart.โ
Wrapping up, we have a much more hopeful and happy last track, โDemons,โ with a soft guitar rhythm and spaced-out drums, singing about fairies, believing in demons, and flying away.
The rest of the album is bittersweet, and yet, if you are not paying attention, it will feel like a simple, carefree albumโ just like life!
