wait by Aniqa Dear: Review

Aniqa Qadir, a singer/composer, along with James Atin-Godden, a producer and musician, formed the band Aniqa Dear. James plays all the instruments and produces and mixes the music, while Aniqa handles vocals and songwriting. The resulting album, named “wait,” is an indie dreamscape filled with entrancing tunes and heartfelt odes.
The opening tune, titled “habits,” opens with a piano beat and introduces Aniqa’s silky vocals. Her style is distinct and infectious. The song has a swinging chorus and a pulsating tempo. Most of the tracks that follow have a melodic swing in Aniqa’s voice, a serene melody, and a touch of lofi rhythm. Smooth transitions characterize Aniqa’s music. She follows a remarkable trip-hop tune. At the song’s conclusion of “undo”, there is a blaring violin solo and some ominous drum rolls, it is truly one of the highlights.
Every number on the album has a lovely piano tune, with each note seeming like a brushstroke in a painting, and the music’s inherent simplicity coming to life via its melodic structure and form. The last track “wait.” begins with a fading voice and piano; it is both breathtaking and endearing in its own way. The sudden shift to a more upbeat, major-scale melody with distinct vocal lines is really invigorating. The song’s middle section, in which the tempo changes to a funky rhythm, is the song’s most memorable and catchiest part. This song is amazing despite its sparse arrangement and slight guitar emphasis.
