Townsville-based indie/punk rock band Poison Oak returns with “Wasted,” the first single from their upcoming album, produced by Brock Weston (known for his work with Bugs, Beddy Rays, and Dune Rats). The music video for the track premiered exclusively on The AU Review, giving fans a visual intrigue paired with contagious music.
“Wasted” opens with a soothing, chiming guitar melody, immediately setting a reflective, dreamlike atmosphere. The lead singer’s soft, high voice gently enters, creating an uplifting, dreamy tone. As the song progresses, the drums kick in, building momentum, and the singer’s voice grows more intense, soaring with passion. The energy continues to escalate as the rhythm section picks up, transforming into a punk rock anthem. The hooky, catchy vocals deliver an emotionally charged performance, paired with vibrant melodies and driving guitars. After a shimmering bridge, the song intensifies even further, culminating in a powerful climax that reflects the enthralling vibrance of youth and all its joys.
Lyrically, “Wasted” is an introspective reflection on friendship lost due to the natural drift of life’s paths. It captures both the joy and nostalgia of shared memories while contemplating whether the fun and dreams of the past are worth the pain of losing those bonds.
Since their inception in 2019, Poison Oak has released three EPs and a debut album titled These Suburban Dreams. With “Wasted,” the band teases more heartfelt introspection, excitement, and anthemic anticipation to be expected from the upcoming album. Keep a watch for the big release.
