Ever felt the need to scream out your pent-up frustrations? Yeah, happens with all of us! But we can’t always scream, can we? The tone and setting need to be aligned, of course. Well, what do we have rock music for, anyway? You can consider “Wasting Time” by Harker to be your ultimate narcotic! Harker couldn’t have made the song any more passionate or personal than with Mark Boniface’s voice layering up as he screams in the chorus: “I said what I had to say/I meant every word I said/And if you won’t talk to me/I’m just wasting time again.”
The electric guitar, drums, and cymbals in “Wasting Time” are perfectly coordinated to create a driving soundscape. The guitar riffs and bassline provide emphasis on Harker’s lyrics and voice gnarling overhead. This amazing, confounding sound came together, sounding so wholly vehement and wholesome in the end, thanks to their producer Tim Greaves and their studio Southsea Sound.
And if you were to ask, what’s behind all this frustration? Well, it’s the song explaining a frustrating reaction to a frustrating case of a relationship where the character’s partner doesn’t seem to care as much anymore, despite him meaning everything he said.
Wondering about this British band’s credibility? Harker has been rocking the UK music scene with 2 great albums and fabulous labels like Wiretap Records, Paper+Plastick, and Fixing a Hole upon them since 2015. If you are into this punk rock sound that Harker has created, don’t forget to check out their next album and their next tour. See if they are coming near you!
