Muni Long is launching a new version of herself with a new artist name, a new style, and “Hrs and Hrs” of focus. Before she created and performed her own chart-topper, Priscilla Renea (whose last name is Hamilton) assisted in the writing of popular masterpieces including “Imagine” by Ariana Grande, “California King Bed” by Rihanna, and “A No No” by Mariah Carey, to mention a few. However, breaking into the music industry as a songwriter can be difficult. “When you go into the business, there are all these norms, status quo, etiquette, and [politics] on how you have to behave to not trip on toes,” Muni Long says ELLE.com while driving through the Los Angeles canyons on the phone.
Long’s ability to produce her own music was enhanced by creating songs for well-known singers in a variety of genres. She carved her path as a young artist with prudence, aiming for a moment in her career where she could make her own decisions. “When you take a check from someone, you’re now subject to them and their rules, and if you don’t act the way they want you to act and do the things they want you to do, they can take your dream away from you,” Long says.
