Weekend Getaway Releases Bright, Funky Album “The Weekend Getaway Band”
Based out of Atlanta, GA, The Weekend Getaway Band is an eight-piece supergroup. Their new album contains fourteen new songs that reflect the group’s character and view on life. Their musical approach is a combination of Motown, old-school R&B, classic soul, and progressive jazz.
Marcus Vess, a songwriter, producer, drummer, and manager, created the band in 2015. He initially envisioned a band focusing on the aesthetic and sound he admired. In collaboration with his cousin and co-writer (Gary McKinney), Vess offered the idea to his buddy, singer and musician Allen Cook, who is incredibly skilled. With the arrival of a super-skilled saxophonist and arranger (Ollie Patterson), the horn section’s dominance was established, and more brilliant musicians were recruited. Most of the songs on this album were composed by Marcus Vess, with assistance from other band members, especially Kenneth Bentley and Eugene Owens. This album is a collection of songs that reflect the band’s emphasis on optimism, love, and a world filled with caring individuals.
“The Weekend Getaway Band” is a stellar album with funky rhythm sections and energizing vocal accompaniments. Each track from the band will urge you to dance because of their brilliant synergy with jazz and funk. Songs such as “Here Just Loving You” and “Summertime” hit those special sentiments deep in your heart. This is because the lyricism and overall vibe of the melody translate to a very smooth and old-school genre of soul that just takes you back to a simpler time.
