Cheyanne Summer’s debut EP, We’ve Got Time is equal parts sass, soul, and sincerity—a confident genre cocktail of country, folk-pop, and retro rock ‘n’ roll that showcases a woman who knows who she is, where she’s been, and where she might not want to go. The Alberta native, already a rising figure on Canada’s indie country scene, brings with her a resume stacked with charting singles, festival stages, and playlist features—but here, she brings something better: her voice, unfiltered.
The opener, “Prom Queen,” is a standout instant earworm. Its glittering percussion and upbeat guitar shimmer with a sugar-rush rhythm. Cheyanne’s lyrics slice through stereotype with wit and sting. With her high, raspy, effortlessly cool voice, she tears down assumptions about privilege and perfection, singing, “Never a prom queen / Didn’t care to be.”
“Hypocrite” sways in with a breezier folk-pop bounce, but under the surface, there’s frustration bubbling. Cheyanne’s vocals carry an empathetic and frustrated ache, calling someone out for their contradictions without losing her grace.
The “Wrong Side of My 20’s,” gets you exhaling deeply with satisfaction and a child-like, youthful joy after a long day. With lazy organs, soft piano, and that slow-dance groove, Cheyanne takes us through the highs and heartbreaks of growing older and chasing dreams. She sings, “Still living carefree / Darling don’t worry / We’ve got time,” like a lullaby to every twenty-something feeling left behind. It’s warm, wise, and soothingly self-aware.
Closing with “Do You Love Me?”, Cheyanne lays bare the slow unraveling of a relationship in its tired phase. Her questioning vocals hover over steady guitar strums, giving voice to what many feel but don’t say.
Cheyanne Summer documents a life lived honestly. We’ve Got Time proves she’s an artist with plenty more stories to tell. Stay tuned with her for more.
