London-based producer Big O returns with When It’s Not Said, But Done, released on September 26th, 2025. True to its title, the album is about action over talk, the sound of an artist pushing boundaries and trusting instinct. Big O, known for his meticulous production and genre-hopping flair, makes every beat himself, drawing inspiration from Madlib, Four Tet, J Dilla, and Kiefer. Recorded in his home studio, this project comes as a rebirth and a revelation, an inward journey told through sonic experimentation, mood shifts, and confidence.
The opening track, “From the Ashes (Rebirth),” pulls up with shoes crunching over gravel and the spits of fire crackling in the background, an auditory metaphor for regeneration. Slowly, ambient textures bloom, spreading across the stereo field like smoke rising from a rekindled flame. Celestial synths swirl in and out, and before you know it, you’re pulled into Big O’s world of ethereal introspection. Jumping ahead, “Still Standing” carries a heartbeat-like rhythm with tapping beats that pulse under wailing female harmonies and triumphant horns. The strings writhe and swell gorgeously as the piano trickles through gently and gracefully like sunlight on rippling water, celebrating the resilience in lush instrumentation.
Then there’s “Walking Into Next Week” featuring Jeronimo G, a breezy, soulful cut that comes like an exhale after the storm with a catchy groove and light gentlity. Finally, “Relaxing My Emotions,” the standout third single, coming eleventh in the tracklist, melts Afrobeats, hip-hop, and R&B into one smooth blend of warm basslines and glistening textures with thick beats and relaxing glistening music floating above in subtle gentle ways.
All in all, When It’s Not Said, But Done isn’t just a record — it’s a statement of intent. Big O doesn’t need to say he’s evolving; he proves it, beat by beat.
