From Tampa, Florida, Lisa Jo is building a legacy out of survival. A former nurse supervisor turned independent powerhouse, she’s faced more than most: losing her voice to illness, battling dual cancers, and enduring devastating personal loss. And yet, instead of fading out, she’s doubled down, writing, producing, and releasing music under her “Lyrics by Lisa Jo” imprint while running her own label. Whispers arrives as another deeply personal chapter, shaped by that resilience and her signature genre-blending approach that pulls from hip-hop, pop, gospel, and beyond.
Right off the bat, “Whisper Voices of Rebellion” sets a defiant tone. The track rides on a deep, revving bassline paired with shaking, almost militant percussion that gives it a sense of urgency. Stacy Swift’s thick, confident vocals cut through the mix with attitude, carrying a personal and collective message. Then the chorus hits, and the backing vocals soar, suddenly, it’s bigger, louder, and impossible to ignore, like a quiet uprising turning into a full-blown anthem.
A few tracks later, “Whisper Words of Sorrow” slows everything down and hits where it hurts. Featuring Tori Sue, the song leans into vulnerability with soft piano lines and gently unfolding beats. Her voice is tender, almost fragile at times, but never weak. There’s strength in the honesty as she sings transparently about never feeling good enough.
Then comes “Whisper of Worship (Where I Began and Where I Always Return),” which feels like a quiet exhale. Stripped back with gentle piano, the song leans into soul and reflection, delivering warmth and devotion in every note.
All in all, Whispers lives up to its name, soft in delivery but powerful in impact.
