In Teto’s debut album About me and you, the husband-and-wife duo from Cainta, Rizal, Jasper and Angel Nicolas, bottle the small, ordinary moments that keep long relationships alive and turn them into soft, heartfelt indie-pop songs. Drawing from two decades of marriage and a life lived across the Philippines, Singapore, the USA, and Cyprus, the pair create warm, familiar, and lived-in music, like flipping through an old scrapbook while rain taps against the window.
The album opens with “More Time With You,” and right off the bat, it slips into an easygoing groove. Soft tapping percussion and glistening guitars float underneath the vocals, while the singer delivers every line with dreamy sincerity. It’s weightless, as though he’s completely swept away by devotion and contentment.
Then comes “The Light Around You,” one of the album’s most cinematic moments. A gentle female vocal paints a shy little coffee-shop encounter, full of stolen glances and nervous smiles. As the song unfolds, the guitars begin strumming faster, and the percussion kicks in, almost mimicking the sudden rush of a heartbeat when attraction sneaks up out of nowhere. It’s subtle storytelling, but it hits the nail on the head.
“My Special Little Idiot” leans into playful romance with effortless chemistry between the two singers. His creamy voice and her rich, velvety tone bounce off each other naturally as they sing about loving one another despite quirks, flaws, and chaos. It’s affectionate, goofy, and refreshingly human.
Across About me and you, Teto prove that everyday love stories still have plenty of magic left in them. The album doesn’t scream for attention; instead, it quietly pulls you in and makes itself at home.
