Alba Obert released melodious new track ‘Fenëtre Sur Le Puit’
With her debut album, ‘Kaléidoscope’, Alba Obert pushes the limits of jazz violin. The young violinist’s playing is instinctive and corrosive, fusing technical mastery with passionate emotion. Her compositions, which draw influence from classical music, rock, punk, and traditional Balkan songs, deliver an alternative jazz-rock that is resolutely bewitching.
The road to developing this distinctive aesthetic has been one of extensive maturation. The musician had long “roved” before discovering in jazz this free spirit that shapes the album. The young musician “strolls” for three years while residing in a former squat where musicians, sporadic technicians, social workers, activists, artists, and Senegalese and Syrian immigrants mix. She eventually finds her violin there. She continues to play in the street while learning about Balkan traditional music and gypsy repertoire.
These mops and these maturations led to the 11 titles that make up ‘Kaleidoscope’. Meticulous compositions that are pierced by personal memories and combine influences from various genres, including jazz, classical music, folklore, and alternative rock. The piano can be heard in the bass of ‘Window On The Well’ or ‘Fentre Sur Le Puit’, which has a more lyrical introduction, while Martin Ferreyros’ electric guitar rubs. The contrasts create an aesthetic that is more nostalgic and reminiscent of childhood memories and memory vertigo.
