โAmateur Anthropologyโ is the musical artwork of h. eldritch, the name under which the producer, singer and songwriter Harry Houseago creates his magic.
After a glitzy synth vibrates over waves of atmospheric sound in โAmateur Anthropology,โ the dulcet vocals of h. eldritch enter gracefully with an increasingly variable pitch and range alongside acoustic guitars strumming scenically. What you never expect, though, is the turn in pitch with Harry sounding ever the more heady in the most elegant, breathy, mystical falsetto after a minute and a couple of seconds in the song.
The passion that Harry exudes with his vocals is another feature to talk about. The lyrics, being an art in themselves, long and swell in frustration and agony. But no one could have put the right emotions into the words better than Harry himself.
Instrumentally, the way the song balances electronic appeal with a folksy tune is masterful. The acoustic guitar gets riffing and sparkling as Harry breathily ranges his vocals and soars high while keeping his vocals stably breathy and grounding them seemingly effortlessly. With the percussion handled by Oscar Reynolds, the drums gave the song the oomph of war, besides the clean instrumentals.
Letโs not forget the others who made it possible for the song to reach these heights, Harryโs former bandmate Silas Backburn for the mixing and Josh Clark of Get Real Audio for the mastering. Itโs a wholesome thing when everyone gets together to create something as good as โAmateur Anthropology.โ So, go listen to โAmateur Athropologyโ by h. eldritch today.
