Karen Salicath Jamali begins 2026 with a breath. Her new single, “Angel Sandalphon (The Angel of New Beginnings),” released on January 29, feels like a quiet clearing of the slate—a gentle invitation to step into the year with intention. It’s her first release of the year, and fittingly, it arrives as an opening gate rather than a grand statement.
The piece was born in a liminal space: a dream just before the New Year, then recorded at dawn as night slowly gave way to morning and birdsong crept into the air. That fragile, in-between moment seeps into every note. With a sense of stillness here, it’s full of possibility. Jamali’s piano lines move delicately, as if testing the ground, glistening with light, tender and deliberate touches.
Musically, “Angel Sandalphon (The Angel of New Beginnings)” unfolds like a conversation with the self. The piano flows in soothing, elegant phrases, grounded by a subtle rhythmic pulse that keeps it anchored, while lighter melodic notes float above, exposing vulnerability and its soft pinching tug. It carries nostalgia and hope side by side, stirring memories while gently nudging the listener forward. Something heals in the way the piece breathes—unrushed, nuanced, and deeply calming.
The symbolism runs deep, too. Angel Sandalphon is traditionally associated with music, prayer, and new beginnings, and Jamali channels that energy directly into the composition. As the notes drift and resolve, the atmosphere cleanses, almost like emotional renewal in sound form. It’s easy to imagine this track accompanying moments of reflection, meditation, or simply the need to reset.
Visually, the single’s artwork completes the circle. Created by Jamali herself, the painting mirrors the music’s energy, reinforcing her belief that sound and image are different expressions of the same frequency. “Angel Sandalphon (The Angel of New Beginnings)” ultimately feels like a soft but purposeful step forward—spiritually guided, luminous, and rooted in clarity.
