Anna of the North has a new track out called “Meteorite,” in which she collaborates with Gus Dapperton.
“Meteorite” is Anna of the North’s first new material as the lead artist this year, aside from performing on Rainsford’s “Brutal” in January. The new single, which features Gus Dapperton, is accompanied with a video directed by Chessa Subbiondo.
In recent years, Norway has developed a taste for novelty acts when sending acts to Eurovision. I’m not sure why they do this when Norway produces some of the top pop acts in the world. For example, Sigrid, Astrid S, Dagny, Susanne Sundfr, and Morten Harket. Anna of the North is another possibility for the job of Norway’s Eurovision ambassador. I don’t seem to write nearly enough about Anna of the North. She just released “Meteorite,” a duet with Gus Dapperton, a New York-based singer-songwriter and producer.
The song is Anna’s third album’s first taste. The song was originally written by Gus.
Speaking about the collaboration and song, Anna says, “He (Gus) asked if I wanted to put a verse on it (“Meteorite“) and collaborate which I, of course, wanted to do. I’m a big fan of him. I love the song and am so happy with how it came out. Our voices work really well together. It’s a song about distance and how energy always connects us.”
It’s nice to hear Anna sing a warm, summery song. “Meteorite” includes more pop influences than her previous albums, but a third album is a good opportunity to branch out. This dynamic is enhanced by Gus’ guest appearance. In comparison to pop and EDM, the idea of an indie-pop cooperation is refreshing.
I adore how simple and natural the music video directed by Chessa Subbiondo seems. The video takes place in a laundromat. They’re not about to disclose their dirty linen. Anna and Gus are more intent on crooning about the effects of long-distance relationships as they go about their everyday activities.
“I can feel you here, feel you there, feel you right, baby. I can feel your waist ‘cross the space and the time. It hits me like a flood, like a stun, like a light, like a meteorite.”
On a hot summer day, this cheerful slice of whistle-led skittering pop is ideal for cooling off. It’s a record that’s never anything but enthralling.
