Blacklight Beat Patrol returns with a haunting, heady swirl in โAwe Walkโ, the first single off their forthcoming fourth album, which was a welcome gut punch of glitch, dream, and dissonance. Rhode Island-based producer Scott R. Corneau, the one-man force behind the project, has made his track feel like the musical embodiment of wandering through a city made of light and static, where every corner hums with distortion and possibility. At just under four minutes, itโs a tight but endlessly shifting, fluid, jagged, and defiantly uncatchy energy.
The track opens with ethereal, floating textures, like walking into a foggy dream, before abruptly slamming down fractured beats and distorted rhythms that jolt you into awareness. The unease exists between clarity and chaos. Just as your ears settle into the shimmering ambient landscape, record scratches and pulsing basslines charge in like rogue waves. Then, it all pulls backโambient again, soft, introspectiveโbefore ramping up one last time into an electrified crescendo.
Corneauโs signature instinct for tension and release drives the entire experience. Heโs chasing feeling, and letting the sound fracture, bend, and mutate along the way. As he puts it, โbroken groovesโ and โfragments that feel like theyโre falling apartโ are part of the process. โAwe Walkโ is the sound of an artist trusting impulse, leaning into the noise, and building something eerily beautiful from the mess.
Blacklight Beat Patrolโs upcoming album will be a fascinating listen, with this track laying the foundation. Check it out on Spotify and stay tuned for the big release.
