Back To Me by Matthew Smith: Album Review
Matthew Smith’s album “Back To Me” blew me away with its folk/indie rock sound. Each melody from this collection is a combination of soothing acoustic hymns and powerful guitar riffs. In addition to that, a talented singer graces the mic and paves the way for each tune.
We begin our journey in the title track “Back To Me”, and man does it make a strong impression! It starts with a clean acoustic and vocal passage, which progresses slowly into an all-out alternative rock segment. When the drums build up the crescendo and launch into it, it energizes you completely. That’s what you need in an opening number folks, and this packed quite a punch. More rock songs such as “Out Here” continue the album’s flow, and it’s pretty invigorating I gotta say. Everything from the singer’s commanding voice to each guitar riff and arpeggio felt polished to hear, and it truly excited me. Aside from that, the percussion segments were top-notch, and it felt like a beast raging on the drums.
“Come” brings along symphonies and the allure of folk-pop to the mix. It’s the more serene side of the album and without a doubt Matthew’s gentle side as an artist. The ending song “Let Me Count The Reasons Why” is a heartfelt acoustic track that is the pinnacle of folk music. It was a fitting end to this sensational album, and I couldn’t have imagined it any other way.
