Between the Lies by Kickstand Jenny is a symbolic musical journey that blends influences from classic rock giants like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Journey, and Bon Jovi. It’s a concept album that takes listeners on a ride through loss to symbolically represent the death of the COVID-19 pandemic and the world’s resurrection afterward.
Opening with “Love It Or Leave It,” the distorted and fuzzy guitars grind with a commanding energy that immerses you in the album’s sonic landscape. The lyrics encapsulate the emotional struggle, with lines like “Read my mind, love it or leave it,” echoing the push and pull of relationships.
“Tonight” jams with guitars and thumps with drums while offering an anthemic force that complements the lyrical message of running away from troubles. The chorus is infectious, making you want to sing along the line, “We’re gonna run away into the night.
Moving to track 7, “Take Me Back To The Time,” the chiming guitars and anthemic force induce a sense of nostalgia, reflecting on the carefree days. The lyrics convey a longing for the past, with lines like “Take me back to the time when you were mine.”
Lastly, “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” carries a country guitar twang in its riffs, and the energetic vocals express the pain of heartache and the need for love to set things right. The soulful lyrics convey a sense of longing and heartbreak, making it a powerful conclusion to the album.
The collection of songs in Between the Lies, produced by Chas Sandford, tells a cohesive and emotionally resonant story. Kickstand Jenny gets their buzz from their excellent taste(influenced by musicians like Led Zeppelin). With a concept that mirrors the world’s journey through challenging times, the album captures the essence of resilience and hope.
