Breakthru Hardtimes by Derek Lee Goodreid: Review
Enduring the hard times is only part of life. But sometimes, we forget that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. This is why we need a reminder every now and then. “Breakthru Hardtimes”, with its self-explanatory title by the Australian musician Derek Lee Goodreid, is an emotional release in which he recounts and processes a series of difficult experiences. Whether you’re struggling with personal troubles, professional setbacks, or even physical health, his stirring voice and blazing electric guitar will remind you that you can and will overcome whatever obstacle is in your way.
From a musical perspective, the song carries a strong whiff of the blues rock of the ’60s. There’s an incredible twang in the vocals that swing over the guitar’s twang and the clean tone is a winning combination. The percussion beat is equally impressive, reaching a climax along with the vocals at the end of each verse. Every stanza ends with a catchy tune set to pounding drums and menacing voices, keeping it enjoyable and memorable, drawing comparisons to both established and up-and-coming acts in the same genre.
Hearing a contrast between the gentle drumming and the hard-hitting section makes the entire album feel raw and gritty. The essence of the song conjures up a sense of struggle and the knowledge that every failure is a stepping stone to success. Despite the dark and sad message within lyrics, there’s a following comforting tone with positive elements. The world needs more encouraging music and thanks to Goodreid’s share of story in this latest track, there’s one less lonely soul out there.
