Nick Marks’ debut EP, “Cinematic Chromatics Vol. I,” is a mesmerizing journey through jazz, electronica, neo-soul, and cinematic music.
The EP opens with Mark’s only song not singled out before: “Prelude/Arc of Light.” This track immediately sets a unique tone. Starting with the intimidating sound of a 21-piece string section, it quickly becomes a funky fusion. With saxophone, swirling cinematic sound effects, and a fusion of glimmering keys with thumping drums, it’s complete with mellifluous cacophony. This piece feels like an overture to the entire EP, inviting listeners into a world where musical boundaries are pushed, and creativity knows no bounds.
“Dorongo,” one of the three singles previously released, continues the sonic adventure. It bursts with music that bubbles up in atmospheric layers, enveloping the listener in a rich, dynamic soundscape.
“Paradiso,” another single from the EP, takes a dreamier turn. The romantic saxophone melodies in this piece exude positivity and relaxation. The music here feels like a gentle breeze on a warm day, bringing the listener tranquillity.
“Ride The Dragon,” the final single in this collection, adds a groovier, grittier edge to the EP. With hard-thumping drums taking centre stage, the saxophone weaves in and out of the music. With all that energy injected, the track gives the EP a sleek ending.
From support on BBC6 to features in respected publications like Jazzwise Magazine, the music world is taking notice of Marks’ innovative sound. The fact that his music videos have garnered over 250,000 views on YouTube further underscores the appeal of his work.
