D.O.A by Von LaRae: Review
A combination of short synth bursts and unique percussive and filler sounds make you expect an arrival of something and then Von LaRae arrives, a timbre so unusual for a guy, that is how ‘D.O.A’ by Von LaRae starts.
Von LaRae is a solo vocal artist from New Orleans and ‘D.O.A’ is the fourth track in his debut album ‘The Art Of Sex’. Von LaRae is an Hip-Hop and R&B artist with afrobeat influences. According to him the song was recorded in his bedroom studio, an astonishing feat that is a testament to his musical talent given how well produced it is.
‘D.O.A’ is full of intimations and the vocals feel like he is singing in the back of your head, a song everyone will easily relate to. It comes with an intoxicating feeling that is not usual for the genre but in this case the gravity is enormous. The clever and shrewd use of filler sounds make you feel like hearing footsteps behind you in an empty road. It is a soulful performance that will keep you immersed in the ocean of melodic jewels. ‘D.O.A’ is a brave experiment of using unique percussive sounds and when the song picks up it will make your body weave and your soul move.
